Day 8: Two, four, Six, Eight, Fanfic reading is really GREAT!

Obviously this blog is not just about Glee, but also as my own outlet to talk about it and cope with the fact that I have to wait FOUR months until it premieres with the second half of the first season.

Surprisingly I do have a life outside of this wonderful show.  I work, I'm in a relationship with a wonderful man (who, even more shocking, enjoys the show alongside me as he is the type of guy that -- prior to dating me -- wasn't the type to sit through a musical, much less a show whose main draw is the musical numbers), I have friends outside the silicone-created virtual atmosphere (though sadly I seem to comunicate with them more online than face-to-face), and I even have other hobbies besides that of thinking, humming, watching, waiting oh so not patiently for Glee.

One of those hobbies is reading.  I love to read.  And I'm not that big of a literary-snob (though having once worked at the bookstore, I had earned the rights to temporarily be a literary-snob, if only because oh yeah, I was -- and still slightly am -- that. Good.)

From Mario Puzo (the godfather of mobster literature), Joseph Wambaugh, Stephen King (yes, I too am part of those masses, though I love his earlier shit and am currently trying to get through his latest mammoth), Ray Bradbury, Dean Koontz (I blame an old friend for my Koontz addiction), Neil Gaimen (his shit is GOLD), Simon R. Green (Nightside series is the SHIT.), Christopher Moore (Lamb.  No ifs, ands or buts... read it.), and yes, I even had read those damn books about the vampires (and I don't mean Anne Rice, though I have read her shit and love them more despite preferring her Mayfair Witches)...

As for classics? Can't stand the Bard that is William.  I mean... okay, I will admit I have a soft spot for his comedies ( Much Ado about Nothing?  Best. Comedy. EVER.), but I absolutely cannot tolerate his romances/tragedy.  See?  Snob.  Same thing with Austen and Bronte (both sisters).  And before you think less of me, trust me I have read their books... won't ever change my personal opinion of their works.  Oh and don't get me started on The Crucible.  Those bitches make the Mean Girls look like saints!

Not to say that I don't appreciate the classics.  I do.  I just have unique opinions on certain books.  I adore A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Fehrenheit 451 and The Odysssy and especially any Kafka books.

So I suppose you're wondering how this all ties into Glee (c'mon, admit it, you wouldn't really be reading this blog if it wasn't at ALL Glee-related)?

Well, my whole point was that I do have a hobby outside of Glee; which is reading.  And of course this blogger has found a combination of the two in the form of *drum rolls please*... FANFICTION!

Fan Fiction essentially are stories created by, duh, the fans of a certain genre and they give their own spin on the characters they know and love.  To my understanding I believe Harry Potter and Twilight has enough fanfiction swirling about to create an massive Encyclopedia (Volumes One to who the fuck knows)!

Thus brings me to talking about Glee fanfiction.  Yes, readers, there are stories out there dedicated to the likes of our beloved McKinley High gleekers!  From stories about Quinn dealing with her pregnancy to Will and Emma finally getting together, and even stories involving a growing relationship/attraction between Kurt and Other Asian (aka Mike Chang).

My favorite stories, so far, involve Mr. Schue and either Quinn (in a more father/daughter bonding type of relationship that usually ends with him adopting Q's daughter) or Rachel (because I'm a sucker for their on-screen chemistry, thus why as much as I adored the eppie Ballad, I was also saddened by the slapstick/exaggeration).

Here are the fanfics I've read/still reading that concerns Will and Quinn or Rachel (at ff.net, link to be found on the side bar of my blog):

After the truth comes out, Quinn truly has no place to go… But like they’ve said, Will Schuester is a good man. Can he become the family she needs? Will/Quinn/Emma/Puck/Finn/Rachel
This story is actually one of THE BEST Will/Quinn father/daughter stories out there.  I absolutely fell in love with it mid-Chapter one.
When Quinn's secret comes to light, she feels like the whole world hates her, but fortunately she finds support from someone she'd never have expected it from.
This fan-fic is the one that started my fascination with the Will/Quinn father/daughter dynamic.  Also beautifully done like "Controlled Chaos"
Quinn gives Will one of the best gifts he's ever received. Spoilers for "Mash Up" episode 08. Will x Quinn, Quinn x Finn. This is a one-shot and will not be continued.
As stated, it's a one-shot and rightly so.  Simple story yet it definitely pulls at a heart-string.

When Rachel Berry stands in the center of the choir room, eyes closed humming a song to no one and every one; she’s trying to rid herself of the rage fuming just beneath the surface of her skin. Will/Rachel
Okay, this author turned what was once a one-shot into an AMAZING (and oh so hot/steamy/sexy) series.  If you click under the author profile, you'll see the list of the other stories in her Will/Rach series.  It's an alternate take on the show itself, but more leaning towards hot Will/Rach sex... while still maintaining some sense of canon. LOL I love it!
Private dance lessons with Rachel Berry are never a good idea.
Yet another really good Will/Rach story... with slight pornish results... but oh my Gawd is it hot and great! LOL
In ten years, the age difference isn't exceedingly obvious - or inappropriate." Future Will/Rachel.
Emotionally (san physically) this is one of THE best.  It takes your basic love story formula (two people reunited and slowly fall in love) and obviously gives it the Will/Rach charm.

So yeah... there you go... I'll probably discuss more about Glee fanfiction as I discover more new ones...

Happy reading!
